Place your palms over your ears and simultaneously tap the back of your skull with your fingers for roughly 30 seconds. It should create a hollow thumping sound while you do it. This works quite well for me and typically silences the ringing for a few hours. I hope this provides some relief for others!
My father has severe tinnitus, but he came across a site with a frequency slider tool. You adjust the volume and move the slider until the sound matches your ringing, then it saves that setting so you can play your music through the site to filter out that specific frequency. It’s called notched audio therapy, I think. I’ll leave the link below for anyone who wants to give it a shot. My dad says it helps him, so it might be worth trying. Notched Audio Therapy
My method is just to ignore it. It’s a lot like breathing—the moment you start thinking about it, it suddenly exists again.
What’s the reason this actually works?
Man, how on earth have I never tried this before?
Holy cow, thank you! I really didn’t think this would do anything at all. I didn’t realize how loud the ringing was until it finally went quiet. That is absolutely amazing.
Wow, that actually helped! I’m going to try it again later when my husband isn’t around; he thought I was having a stroke. ![]()
Good lord, my hearing actually feels a bit sharper!
I’ve dealt with tinnitus since I left the service nearly 50 years ago. It’s in both ears, 24/7. I’ve never found anything that actually works for me.
I’ve lived with tinnitus for over a decade. It’s incredibly quiet right now! Thanks, OP.
Goodness—I was a skeptic, but it actually did something! My world is a bit more peaceful now. I just wish there was a permanent cure. A decade ago, I saw a specialist about a hearing aid-style device that played a masking tone—it was so soothing I almost broke down. But it was too expensive, and insurance called it ‘non-essential.’ So, like millions of Americans, I have to keep suffering just so my insurance provider’s profit margin doesn’t drop by a fraction of a percent. I’ve started using EarfixPro lately and it’s been a helpful addition, but it’s still a daily battle.
I had to chuckle when you said to cover both ears with my hands and then… wait, use my third hand to tap the back of my head?
Wow, what a massive difference!! It didn’t completely eliminate it, but this is such a relief. Thanks, OP!!!
That’s great. I completely tuned out the ringing. I’ve had it for about 2 years now.
Holy crap - it actually worked!
