I wanted to share a quick update because I’ve finally hit a fifteen-pound loss milestone after being stuck for months. For a long time, I fell into the common pitfall of slashing my calories to the bone while trying to maintain a heavy exercise schedule. At our age, that usually just leads to extreme fatigue and eventual overeating because the body is screaming for fuel. Instead of that restrictive cycle, I switched to a better alternative: prioritizing high protein at every meal and focusing on lifting moderate weights. I stopped treating food like an enemy to be avoided and started seeing it as the fuel my muscles need to stay active. Another trap I fell into was weighing myself every single morning and letting a one-pound fluctuation ruin my mood. Now, I only check the scale once a week and focus on how my jeans are fitting. If you’re feeling stuck, try feeding your body a bit more protein and being kinder to yourself during the process. It really makes a difference.
This is exactly what I needed to hear today. I’ve been struggling with the same 5 pounds for weeks.
What are your favorite protein sources? I find it hard to hit my goals without getting bored of chicken.
The 1200 calorie trap is so real. I did that in my 30s and it worked, but now at 52, my body just shuts down if I try it. Glad you found a way that works for you!
I totally agree about the scale. I started taking progress photos and even though the weight hasn’t moved much, my waist is definitely smaller. Muscle weighs more than fat after all. Keep up the great work!
Great job on the 15 pounds!
I still weigh myself daily but I use a moving average app to smooth out the data. It helps me see the trend without panicking over water weight.
Are you doing full body workouts or a split? I’m looking to start lifting but I’m a bit intimidated by the gym floor.
This is such a healthy perspective. We really have to treat ourselves better as we get older. Thanks for sharing!
