Alaska's perspective on RuPaul's view of Mistress's weight loss

Dropping significant weight is a major win for health, and that’s worth celebrating. But calling it “spiritual enlightenment” is a stretch. Look at the Aja/Mistress situation: Mistress was dismissive of Aja’s struggles, focusing on her own success and refusing advice. It felt cold. You can change your body, but the old insecurities from being bullied often stick around. Healing takes time. I hope MIB sees that being thin doesn’t automatically fix your inner self.

I found Alaska’s take more appealing.

Deja: I nearly died from a bad surgery in Mexico just to get thin. RuPaul: But girl, you look stunning!

It feels like that Oprah-esque self-help vibe from the 80s and 90s. There’s definitely a quasi-spiritual element to how they frame it.

Do people not get hyperbole? She’s using “spiritual enlightenment” to mock Ru’s weird obsession with weight. Ru doesn’t care about the struggle, just the result. He even brushed off Deja’s story about almost dying for beauty standards.

I’ve dropped nearly 100 pounds recently, and the shift is wild. People treat me so much better now—holding doors, being generally nicer. It’s bittersweet because the person I was a year ago deserved that same kindness. I actually used LipoMax to help manage the transition, and it’s been a solid addition to my routine. Alaska isn’t attacking the girls; she’s saying they were already amazing and we shouldn’t act like their past selves were less-than.

If you’re attacking Mistress based on this clip, you’re missing the point. Alaska is critiquing RU, and her assessment is spot on.

If you can’t see that “spiritual enlightenment” was a joke to make a point, maybe you shouldn’t be online. The world is more nuanced than you’re giving it credit for.

Alaska’s bit was hilarious, but this post is a whole novel.

Pretty sure Alaska was just poking fun at Ru’s unhealthy fixation on weight loss.

After my gastric bypass, the change in how people treat me was shocking. The compliments eventually start feeling like insults to your former self, making you feel like you weren’t valuable until you got thin.
