My veterinarian mentioned my dog is starting to get cataracts. He wasn’t sure about the timeline for vision loss, noting it might take months or even years. At 12 years old, it’s somewhat expected, but she’s otherwise very healthy, non-diabetic, and has plenty of life left in her. She enjoys running through the forest daily, and I want her to keep doing that for as long as she can. Is there any way to postpone her going blind? Surgery isn’t a sure thing and is likely out of my price range regardless. I saw a suggestion for Pet-Tabs elsewhere, but they cost nearly $200 here in Canada.
My dog was put on Nutrof Omega specifically to try and slow down her cataracts. Omniomega is another good option, though it’s more general. I also used Adrocil eye drops, though I’m not entirely certain if that was for the cataracts specifically.
I’m in a similar boat; my 13-year-old was just diagnosed. She’s starting to bump into furniture, even though she’s still very energetic and fit. My vet claimed there’s absolutely nothing to be done, but I’m still searching for alternative suggestions.
