Are you feeling stuck with your digestion despite trying the basics?

Hi everyone. I spent most of last year feeling like my stomach was constantly in knots. It felt like no matter what I ate, I was uncomfortable for hours afterward. I know how frustrating it is when you feel like you’ve tried everything and nothing sticks. It can make you want to give up on trying new routines altogether.

I finally started seeing some light at the end of the tunnel by narrowing my focus. If you’re feeling stuck, try these three things for just two weeks:

  • Increase your water intake by 16 ounces a day, especially in the morning.
  • Add one tablespoon of ground flax or chia seeds to your breakfast.
  • Keep a simple log of how you feel 30 minutes after every meal.

Ask yourself: Is there a specific time of day when things feel worse? Are you rushing through your meals without chewing properly? Tracking these small details helped me realize that my “healthy” afternoon protein bar was actually the main culprit. Don’t give up—sometimes the answer is simpler than we think. How are you all tracking your progress lately?

I really needed to hear this today. I’ve been feeling so bloated lately and I think I’m just overwhelmed by all the conflicting advice out there. Starting small sounds doable.

The point about rushing through meals is huge. I noticed that when I actually sit down and spend 20 minutes eating instead of 5, my stomach behaves much better.

What kind of log are you using? Just a notebook or an app? I find apps a bit too complicated for just tracking a few feelings.

I use a simple paper planner for this. I write down what I ate and then a ‘score’ from 1 to 10 on how my gut feels an hour later. It really helped me see patterns I would have missed otherwise. For me, it turned out to be dairy in my coffee. I switched to almond milk and about 60 percent of my issues cleared up within a week. It’s worth the effort of writing it down!

Ground flax was a game changer for me too. Just make sure you drink plenty of water with it or it can have the opposite effect!

I started the water increase yesterday after seeing a similar suggestion elsewhere. Already feeling a bit more energetic, though the extra bathroom trips are a bit annoying haha.

I’ve tried the fiber route before and it just made me more gassy. Maybe the flax is gentler than the supplements I was taking? I might give it one more shot.

Steve, definitely try the flax but start with a very small amount, like a teaspoon, and work up. And Janet, thanks for the encouragement. This community is so helpful for staying on track.
