Can't experience enjoyment from substances (such as alcohol)

29-year-old male, 5’6", 76 kg. For roughly the past decade, I’ve been facing a strange difficulty. I’m unable to feel any euphoria from substances like alcohol. Although I experience the physical sensations of being intoxicated, such as dizziness and slowed reflexes, there’s no actual pleasure involved. I have the same issue with sex; it just doesn’t provide the satisfaction it used to. Other symptoms I’m dealing with include: 1) a sense of emotional emptiness, 2) not feeling anything during daily activities or even major milestones, 3) a loss of interest in movies and TV shows compared to before, and 4) no desire to engage in hobbies, and even when I do, they don’t bring me any joy.

Based on your history, I see you’re living with schizophrenia. What you’re describing are known as negative symptoms (like anhedonia, low drive, and diminished interest), which are quite common but unfortunately harder to address than positive symptoms like hallucinations or delusions. This is definitely a topic you should discuss with your psychiatrist.
