Hi doctors, I’m seeking some insight into my current health situation. I’ve provided a timeline of my symptoms and lab results below. My main issue has been constant, severe nausea following an initial gastrointestinal episode. A representative from the health department believes it’s unlikely the E. coli infection was present for the full six weeks prior to my test result. My own doctors are stumped. I would appreciate any guidance or follow-up questions you might have. Thank you.
Week 1: Sudden, intense diarrhea and nausea lasting 4-5 days. Stool was pale with a very strong odor. *AST and ALT high (both 42 IU/L); Alkaline Phosphate low (39 IU/L)
Week 2: Vomited twice; experienced severe daily nausea. Started Zofran, which I am still using. Developed constipation toward the end of the week. *Neutrophils high (8.2 x10E3/uL); ALT high (53 IU/L); Alkaline Phosphate low (42 IU/L); RDW low (11.6%)
Week 3: Nausea intensity decreased slightly but remains debilitating when it hits. Food intake is very limited. Constipation.
Week 4: Vomited once. Daily waves of nausea. Regurgitation after meals. Stool had a light film; gas and stool were foul-smelling. *Calprotectin high (173 ug/g); ALT high (34 IU/L)
Week 5: Bloating, nausea, and fatigue. Appetite is slowly returning, but I can only manage a few bites at a time.
Week 6: Symptoms persisted as in week 5, though bloating improved. Some stool appeared normal in color. *Stool test positive for Shiga toxin E. coli; ALT high (35 IU/L)
Week 7: Watery diarrhea for about five days, then constipation and pale stool. Nausea continues.
Negative results for hepatitis panel and UTI; abdominal and pelvic scans were clear; no obstructions found.
