I am a Type 1 diabetic and went for a cycle yesterday morning. Because of my condition, I always carry emergency supplies like a juice box, some glucose tabs, and a few bars in case my blood sugar crashes. While heading home, I spotted a guy on the grass who looked like he was in trouble, so I stopped to check on him. He was a bit younger than me and showed me his medical alert necklace, explaining he was also diabetic and had hit a low but forgot to pack his snacks. He didn’t want to call for an ambulance but had no other way to get sugar. I offered him my supplies and sat with him to make sure he was okay. While he was taking the glucose tabs, a woman approached and demanded my juice box for her daughter. I explained that I was assisting someone having a medical crisis and needed the remaining items for my own safety. She argued that they had been out for hours and her daughter was hungry. When I confirmed her child wasn’t diabetic, I told her I couldn’t give them up. She kept questioning why I would help a stranger if I didn’t know him personally. When the guy’s levels were still a bit low at 3.5, I went to give him my juice, and she actually tried to snatch it out of my hand. She told me I should just call him an ambulance so her kid could have my food. I finally snapped and told her to get lost, pointing out that as a parent she should have brought her own supplies. She called me a bitch and walked off. Once the guy was stable, we left, and she screamed another insult at me as I biked away.

As a father to a six-year-old with diabetes, I really appreciated the way you looked out for a fellow T1D. That woman, however, is a total monster. EDIT: Thanks for all the upvotes and awards! I definitely didn’t expect this!
Proof that no kind act goes unpunished! She seriously thought summoning an ambulance was a reasonable alternative to her child not having a juice box?

The fact that she is unable to grasp the concept of helping a stranger in need is… honestly pretty concerning.
