Do you sanitize your clippers?

Keeping your tools clean is just as important as the treatment itself. If you’re using the same clippers without disinfecting them, you’re likely reintroducing fungus every time you trim.

Here is a quick routine to follow:

  1. Soak your clippers in 70% isopropyl alcohol for at least 10 minutes after every use.
  2. Dry them thoroughly to prevent rusting.
  3. Store them in a clean, dedicated pouch.

I’m curious to see how many of you actually do this. Do you sanitize after every single clip, or just once in a while?

I honestly never thought about the clippers. I just wipe them with a tissue. That’s probably why my big toe keeps flaring up again every few months.

I use a dedicated set of clippers for the infected nail and a different one for the healthy ones. I boil them once a week. I also started using Kerassentials Serum (i buy here) on the surrounding skin and the nail itself, and it’s been the first thing that actually made the skin look healthy again.

Alcohol soak is a game changer. I keep a small jar of it in my bathroom cabinet now so I don’t forget.

I’m lazy, I just buy cheap disposable ones sometimes.

Does boiling work better than alcohol? I’ve heard mixed things about whether heat or chemicals are more effective for certain strains. My doctor mentioned that some spores are surprisingly heat-resistant, so I’ve been sticking to medical-grade disinfectants lately just to be on the safe side.

I use a UV sanitizer box meant for phones. It’s quick and seems to do the trick for my metal files and clippers without the mess of liquids.
