Does anyone else experience eye issues?

TL;DR: Is this a typical FND symptom and something I can manage on my own?

Does anyone else deal with constant eye pain and pressure, along with episodes of sharp pain, blurring, and dizziness that last about a minute without a headache?

My daily vision is generally okay, though it has declined slightly since the pain began, but it’s still manageable.

I’m just curious if this is a common symptom of FND—not seeking medical advice, just wanting to hear about others’ experiences.

Thanks!

I experience short spells of blurry vision and get eye strain very easily. There’s occasional pain or pressure that lingers for a while, and sometimes my sight isn’t as clear as it should be. I occasionally lose focus and feel lightheaded, or have intense moments where my vision cuts out for a split second and I feel off-balance. My eye doctor and the specialists at the glaucoma clinic haven’t found anything wrong, so I attribute it to FND since these issues only started appearing alongside it, aside from some minor dryness.

I was actually thinking of posting something very similar. I’d add that I also get a vibrating sensation in my eyes, or a feeling that my vision is slightly shaking when I look at things. It’s very subtle and doesn’t stop me from seeing, but it feels related to what you’re describing. It started about three months ago and hasn’t gone away. I don’t have an official FND diagnosis, but I do have a psychosomatic disorder diagnosis, which is quite similar in this context. Anyway, I experience that too.

My vision goes dark and fuzzy sometimes when I stand up. I also have visual snow and random bouts of blurriness for no clear reason.

I struggle with significant eye pressure and pain, sudden vision loss, visual snow, and even temporary blindness upon waking. I see shapes and colors too. Doctors have linked it to migraines and FND, including the visual snow aspect. They suggested some vision might return, but after two years, I’m not really expecting it anymore.

I get that eye pressure too! Just the pressure. It usually hits right around the time my sensory issues flare up. I’m so relieved to hear I’m not the only one experiencing this!

While FND can cause this, BVD is incredibly common and easy to overlook, so it’s worth checking out. My vision problems were almost dismissed as just FND, but I insisted on a binocular vision test and it turns out I actually need vision therapy.

For me, the eye problems and headaches stemmed from idiopathic intracranial hypertension and fourth nerve palsy. I actually got the IIH diagnosis before the FND one, even though the FND symptoms started a decade earlier. It’s definitely worth getting a professional opinion. Modern opticians have equipment that’s just as advanced as what you’d find in a hospital. The clear sign for me was actual swelling of the optic nerve.

That sounds a lot like an ocular migraine to me. Whenever I have an episode, my right eyelid often starts to droop.
