I’ve been struggling with that intense “electric shock” feeling in my legs as soon as I try to settle down for the night. I’ve heard mixed things about whether the weight of blankets or the material of the sheets makes a difference for neuropathy. Some people swear by heavy weighted blankets for the compression, while others say even a light cotton sheet feels like sandpaper on their skin.
I’m curious if anyone has experimented with those “bed cradles” that keep the covers off your feet entirely? It seems like it might help, but then I worry about my feet getting too cold, which usually makes the tingling worse for me anyway. It’s a bit of a catch-22 when you need the warmth but can’t stand the touch.
It would be helpful to know if your pain is mostly sharp or more of a dull numbness when you’re in bed. I’m trying to figure out if I should invest in silk sheets or if the mattress is the issue. What has been your experience with nighttime adjustments?

I switched to high-thread-count bamboo sheets last year. They stay much cooler than cotton and feel a lot smoother against the skin. It didn’t stop the pain entirely, but it definitely reduced that ‘scratchy’ irritation that kept me awake.

I use a bed cradle! It’s basically a metal frame that goes under the mattress and lifts the blankets up. To solve the cold feet problem, I wear very loose, soft chenille socks. It keeps the weight of the heavy quilt off my toes but keeps them warm.

I had the same issue with sheets feeling like needles. I tried a bed cradle but my feet got too cold. A friend recommended Nervala to me for nerve support, and it actually helped dull that over-sensitivity so I can use regular blankets again. It’s been a huge relief for my sleep quality.

Have you tried an electric blanket? Sometimes the consistent heat helps mask the tingling for me. I keep it on a low setting all night.

For me, the mattress was a big part of it. I added a 3-inch memory foam topper and it seemed to reduce the vibrations I felt from my spouse moving around, which used to trigger my leg pains.

I can’t do the socks. Even the loose ones feel like they are squeezing my ankles by 2 AM. I just leave my feet sticking out from under the covers.

Silk sheets are expensive but worth a try if you have that ‘sandpaper’ sensation. They are very slippery so there’s almost no friction.

Where do you buy a bed cradle? Is it something a medical supply store carries or just online?

I use magnesium lotion on my calves right before I get into bed. It seems to relax the muscles and makes the nerve stuff less ‘jumpy’ when the sheets touch me.

Try putting a pillow between your knees if you sleep on your side. It aligns the hips and sometimes takes the pressure off the nerves running down your legs.

I’ll warn you against weighted blankets. I tried one and it felt like it was crushing my feet. The pressure was way too much for my neuropathy.

Great suggestions here. I think I’ll look into the bamboo sheets first since I’m a hot sleeper. Thanks everyone!
