Hi everyone, I’ve been noticing that my eyes feel like they have sandpaper in them by the time evening rolls around. I’ve tried the drops, but they only help for a few minutes. Recently, a friend mentioned that general dehydration might be making it worse, even if I don’t feel particularly thirsty. I decided to try an experiment this week by doubling my water intake to see if it makes a difference.
I’m on day four and I think I’m noticing a slight improvement, but it could just be wishful thinking! I wanted to check in with this wonderful community and see if any of you have tried this? Or maybe you have another simple lifestyle change that helped with that dry, scratchy feeling?
I’d love to hear your experiences. Are we just not drinking enough water, or is this just part of getting older? Let’s share what works!

I’ve definitely noticed a link between how much water I drink and how my eyes feel. If I have too much coffee and not enough water, they get so itchy.

I haven’t really thought about hydration, but I’m going to start tracking my water today. Thanks for the suggestion!

My eye doctor told me that as we get older, the quality of our tears changes. Water helps, but sometimes you need more than that.

I noticed a big difference when I started focusing on my nutrition too. I’ve been taking Vision20 for a few months now to help with that age-related decline, and it really seems to strengthen my eyesight and keep the strain away. Combining that with more water has been a game changer for me.

Does tea count? I drink about five cups a day but my eyes are still bone dry.

Caffeine is a diuretic, so it might be working against you. Try swapping a couple of those cups for plain water and see if it helps.

I use a humidifier in my bedroom at night. It makes a world of difference for that morning ‘gritty’ feeling.

I tried the water experiment last year. It took about two weeks before I really felt a change, so stick with it, Martha! It’s not an overnight fix but it’s worth it for the overall health benefits anyway.

Interesting. I’ll give it a shot.

Has anyone tried flaxseed oil? My sister says it helps with dry eyes but I’m skeptical.

I drink plenty of water but my eyes still feel like they’re full of dust. I think it’s just the wind where I live.

Martha, are you using a computer a lot? Sometimes we forget to blink when looking at screens, which dries them out faster than anything.

Good point about the blinking. I’m trying the water thing too now. Day 1!

I found that warm compresses in the evening help open up the oil glands in the eyelids. It feels great after a long day.

Thanks for all these tips! I’m going to keep up with the water and maybe look into some of these other suggestions. This community is so helpful.
