Filing Your Nails Won't Kill Fungus

I’ve seen a lot of advice lately suggesting that if you just file your infected nail down to the quick, you can scrape the fungus away. I tried this for months, and honestly, it just made my nail bed incredibly sensitive and prone to bleeding. The reality is that fungus lives deep within the nail plate and the skin underneath. Filing might make it look slightly better for a day, but it doesn’t address the root of the infection.

You need something that actually penetrates the barrier and supports the skin’s natural resistance. After wasting time on aggressive filing and harsh chemicals, I switched to using ProNail Complex (i order from here) every morning. It’s a blend of oils and vitamins that actually feels like it’s repairing the damage rather than just stripping the nail away. My new growth is finally coming in clear and strong without me having to sand my toes down to nothing. If you’re struggling with thickness, focus on nourishment and protection rather than just mechanical removal.

I made the same mistake. I filed mine so thin they were basically paper. It didn’t stop the fungus, it just made it easier for the infection to reach the raw skin. Terrible idea.

I agree with the filing point. I started using ProNail Complex about six weeks ago and the difference in the skin around my nail is huge. It really does help the resistance factor and stopped the itching.

I’ve had a similar experience. ProNail Complex was the only thing that stopped that yellowing from spreading further up the nail. Definitely worth the try if you’re tired of home remedies that don’t work.

Has anyone tried those UV light boxes? I keep seeing them advertised but I’m skeptical if they actually reach deep enough.

UV lights are mostly a gimmick for the price. You’re better off getting your shoes professionally cleaned or using a spray to kill spores inside your footwear.

Don’t forget to change your socks twice a day if you’re active. Moisture is the enemy. Copper-infused socks helped me a bit with the odor part of it.

I’ve been dealing with this since my 30s. It’s a marathon, not a sprint. Every time I think it’s gone, it flares back up in the winter when I’m wearing heavy boots all day. Consistency is key.

Is it true that diet affects it? I heard cutting sugar helps starve the fungus out but that sounds like another myth to me.

I still think filing has its place just to let topicals sit better, but you shouldn’t go crazy with it. Just a light buffing on the surface is enough.

Exactly what the OP said. If you file too deep, you’re just creating micro-tears for more bacteria to get in. I ended up with a secondary infection doing that.

Took me a while to find this thread but I’m glad I did. ProNail Complex worked wonders for my athlete’s foot too, not just the nails. The skin looks way healthier and less flaky now.

How long did it take for you guys to see the nail actually clear up? I’m on month three of a different treatment and I’m losing patience.
