For anyone battling emotional eating, I highly recommend Allen Carr’s book on the subject

I’m not even sure how to start describing a book that truly transformed my life. For about two decades, I was stuck in a cycle of toxic dieting and weight loss attempts. Like so many others, I’ve tried every single fad and trend out there. I actually bought this book a while ago but let it sit on the shelf until March 2025. Since opening it, I’ve been thrilled with the results. It tackles the issue of emotional eating in a very straightforward and compassionate manner. The core message is that food shouldn’t be used for emotional support and that ‘willpower’ is mostly a marketing gimmick from the diet industry. After two weeks of engaging with the material (the Audible version is excellent, by the way), I dropped 8 pounds. Three months later, I’m down 20 pounds. Unlike other diets, I didn’t have to starve myself or deal with feelings of shame and self-loathing. I felt empowered and positive throughout. If you’re on the fence about reading this, please give it a chance. It’s absolutely worth it. It exposes how the sugar industry manipulates us into overeating. It’s time to live life fully and finally get comfortable (if you know, you know).

I’ve gone through his weight loss guide and noticed it really pushed a plant-based lifestyle. While I respect that, it feels a bit overwhelming to me. Does the emotional eating book take the same approach?

How is your progress lately? I’ve found myself sliding back a bit after a few months, so I’m planning a re-read. On the plus side, I haven’t had any chocolate since before Christmas!

I just finished this, and it’s been a huge help in stopping my binge eating habits, which I’ve dealt with for over 20 years. I think I’ll need to revisit the text frequently to stay focused. Around the midpoint, I kept waiting for some ‘secret method’ to be revealed, only to realize that the act of reading the whole book as directed is the method itself—it almost feels like a form of hypnosis. If you’re just starting and feel like quitting, keep going; even just a few pages daily will lead to results. I’ve gone a full month without junk food, which is a first for me. It’s as if my brain has been rewired to not even want it. I did have a moment last night where I overate for comfort, though I avoided sugar and junk, so I’m starting a re-read today at my own pace. My situation was quite severe and I’d tried every other option, but this actually works! (Side note: I haven’t seen the scale move yet, but I feel much healthier and less ashamed. I’m hopeful the weight loss will follow as my habits stabilize, but stopping the binges is already a massive win). Definitely pick this up and start today—best of luck!
