Frustration: Users offering hazardous dieting tips to minors on this subreddit need to be banned for good

I recently witnessed someone suggesting an extended fast to a teenager who was already on the thin side of a healthy weight range, just to help her reach an unhealthy goal. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! This group is meant for support, not for encouraging eating disorders in young people. The ONLY guidance we should offer to ACTUAL CHILDREN is to talk to a reliable adult if they’re worried. Most of the time, the kids on here are already at a fine weight. They’re still growing and require energy! Their focus should just be on being a teenager. Stop recommending Keto, fasting, or any other nonsense to kids. It really isn’t difficult to check a post, see it’s from a minor, and behave responsibly.

It’s heartbreaking to see so many teens in these weight loss communities. They’re bombarded with totally unrealistic media standards and feel pressured to match them. Honestly, I think any post from someone under 18 should be deleted immediately. There’s just way too much harmful information being shared.

“I’m 17, working out three hours daily on 500 calories, but the weight isn’t coming off fast enough. Any advice?” I’m with you; minors should probably only seek medical advice from experts, since long-term nutritional deficits can cause lasting health issues :frowning:

TOTALLY AGREE!!! Moderators, please pay attention to this.

I wish I could give this more than one upvote. It’s so painful to see kids asking for weight loss tips—especially since most are already healthy—and then receiving risky advice they don’t realize is bad. Occasionally, there’s a post from a child who is severely overweight and needs basic advice like “eat better, stay active, and talk to your parents,” but for most of them, the message should just be “be a kid, love who you are, and build a positive relationship with your body.”
