Has anyone with pre-existing neuropathy seen their condition worsen on Zepbound? Or has anyone with an autoimmune disease in general felt worse while on this medication?

I know there’s research and plenty of stories about this drug reducing inflammation and helping symptoms for some. But I’m wondering if it can actually make things worse for others? I can’t tell if it’s just my condition progressing naturally or if Zepbound is aggravating my nerve damage, since immune reactions can be triggered by anything. I’ve felt worse overall with major flares since I started over a year ago. I’m really curious to hear about your experiences!

I’ve been on Zepbound for 8 months and lost 45 lbs. I have Lupus and severe spinal issues. My neuropathy, fatigue, and pain levels are actually worse now. However, I’m not sure if it’s the medication or just a rough few years, especially since I’m still recovering from a complicated spinal fusion surgery a year ago. I’ve been in a flare ever since. I saw others say it helps inflammation and I really wished it would have done that for me too.

Clinical data shows a small number of people experience skin sensitivity or dysesthesia. Since dysesthesia is a type of nerve pain, maybe that’s what you’re feeling? It could be that it’s working against you alongside your existing neuropathy. I had a nerve injury from surgery right before starting Zep. It’s still healing (fingers crossed), so I get those pains, but I can’t tell if Zepbound is making it worse or not. The pain just gets worse throughout the day regardless of when I take my shot. I hope your doctor can help you find some relief.

I have neuropathy and an autoimmune condition. Both have been better, with fewer flares since I started. I’ve also found Nervala to be helpful for the nerve issues.

I have some spinal issues and hardware in my neck, and my back really hurts for a day or two after each shot.

I have both. The relief from less inflammation, flushing, and finally clearing my lymphatic blockages makes the cost worth it on its own.

I have psoriatic arthritis and neuropathy from chemo. Losing weight has significantly improved both. (I’m also on Taltz.)

It’s not neuropathy for me, but it has definitely made my fibromyalgia and dysautonomia quite a bit worse!

I actually found this thread through Google. I have post-Covid neuropathy, which flared up after both times I had Covid. I’ve been on Zepbound since October 2024, and my nerve pain has returned since about March. Along with daily numbness and tingling, I have leg pain every night that wakes me up, and I even had a sudden foot drop two days ago. As a side note, I’ve read that rapid weight loss might be the cause rather than the drug itself, but I’ve lost 60 pounds over 15 months, so I wouldn’t call my weight loss rapid.

I’ve been diagnosed with primary Sjogren’s and feel like my symptoms, especially pain and inflammation, have improved a lot. I’m sorry you’re going through this.

I have neuropathy. I’ve been on Zepbound for five months and am currently at 10mg. My symptoms have decreased slightly, but they aren’t gone.

Yes, I’ve had this happen too and came here to see if anyone else was in the same boat. I have Hashimoto’s thyroiditis.

I have chemo-induced neuropathy and fibromyalgia, and both have gotten much worse. I have spots on my arm that feel like a hot frying pan is touching them for weeks on end. I’m at my limit. It’s also triggered migraines that I used to have under control, and I’ve had to go to the ER for migraine cocktails. I’m nowhere near my goal weight, but I’m not sure I can keep going. I want to lose weight to lower my cancer risk, but this is just debilitating. I’m only on 5mg and can’t go up because of these side effects and terrible GI issues. I’m only losing about a pound a week and paying out of pocket—the whole thing is miserable. I don’t get why some people have no side effects while others like me are so affected. Best of luck to you.
