How do you handle cold weather?

Living in the Midwest, the drop in temperature always makes my hands and knees feel ten years older. I’ve started wearing compression gloves indoors and using a heated steering wheel cover, which has really changed my morning commute. I also try to keep moving even when it’s freezing outside to prevent that “rusting” feeling.

What are your go-to tricks for surviving the winter months? Do you find that diet changes help with the seasonal stiffness, or is it all about the layers?

I’d love to hear how you all stay mobile when it’s icy out.

Heated blankets are my absolute best friend. I keep one on the sofa for when I’m watching TV in the evenings.

I noticed a huge difference when I cut out processed sugars during the winter. It sounds boring, but my inflammation levels really dropped.

Honestly? I moved to Arizona. Best decision I ever made for my joints. No more shoveling snow or waking up stiff as a board.

I swear by compression socks under my jeans. They keep the circulation going and my ankles don’t throb as much after a walk.

Have you tried a paraffin wax bath for your hands? My physical therapist recommended one and it’s like a spa day for your knuckles. It gets the heat deep into the joint where a regular glove can’t reach. I do it every night before bed and it really helps with the morning range of motion.

I second the heated steering wheel! It’s a total game changer for the fingers.

Where did you get your steering wheel cover? My car doesn’t have the built-in heater and my fingers go numb every morning.

@ChillyInChicago I just found a generic one at the local auto shop that plugs into the 12v outlet. It takes a few minutes to warm up but it’s worth it!

I do light yoga indoors. Even just 10 minutes of stretching keeps the blood flowing when the barometric pressure starts acting up.

Fish oil and turmeric capsules seem to take the edge off for me during the colder months. It’s not a miracle, but every little bit helps.

Stay strong! Spring is only a few months away. We can do this.
