I’ve been on the keto wagon for about three years now. When I first started in my early 40s, the weight practically fell off. Lately, though, things have stalled. I realized that even though my macros were perfect, my digestion felt sluggish and I was bloated all the time. It made me wonder if we focus too much on the scale and not enough on what’s happening inside our gut.
I started looking into how microbiome balance affects fat storage, especially as we get older and our systems slow down. I decided to try adding a specific supplement called LeanBiome (i buy here) to my routine to see if fixing my gut health would help. Honestly, the difference in my energy and midsection bloating was noticeable within a few weeks.
Do you think we over-complicate diets by just looking at numbers? Maybe the real secret to breaking a plateau after 45 is just getting our internal bacteria back in balance. I’d love to hear if anyone else has shifted their focus from calories to gut health.

I totally agree. I spent years obsessing over every single gram of fat, but I felt like garbage. Once I started eating more fermented foods and focusing on fiber, the weight started moving again. It’s not just about the math.

Interesting take. I’ve always been a ‘calories in, calories out’ person. Is it really possible for bacteria to override a deficit? I’m skeptical but willing to learn more about the science behind it.

At 52, I’ve noticed my body reacts way differently to food than it did at 30. If my gut is off, I don’t lose an ounce. I usually stick to bone broth and sauerkraut to keep things moving.
I actually started using LeanBiome about two months ago for the same reason. I hit a massive wall with my keto progress, but after adding those specific lean bacteria strains, I finally dropped those last eight pounds. It really works if your gut is the issue.

The research on the cecum and fat storage is actually pretty solid. There’s a reason they call the gut the second brain. If the microbiome is imbalanced, your body holds onto fat as a survival mechanism.

I find that apple cider vinegar helps me a lot with the bloating. But you’re right, the older we get, the more we have to listen to our digestion instead of just the calorie tracker.

I’m on my second bottle of LeanBiome now and I have to agree with the OP. My sugar cravings have almost vanished, and I’ve lost several inches off my waist. It’s much easier than starving myself on 1200 calories.

How long did it take for you guys to see results? I’ve been focusing on gut health for a week and don’t feel much different yet. Maybe I need to be more patient with the process.

Patience is key. It takes time to repopulate the gut. This is a great discussion—too many people in our age group just cut calories lower and lower until their metabolism breaks. Healing the gut first is the smarter move.
