I have neuropathy in my right knee where the sensation is distorted, and I’m dealing with an intense itch that just won’t go away. I’ve even caused skin damage from scratching so much. Is this a known symptom of neuropathy?
Yes. I experienced that with meralgia parasthetica. I ended up gouging my thighs from scratching so hard. Thankfully, I finally mentioned it to my physio, and he diagnosed the nerve problem. I had been buying every cream and lotion I could find to try and stop the itching.
It definitely can. Mine usually happens around my eye, which is incredibly annoying. Sometimes I’ll get an itch in my leg, even though that area is mostly numb to other sensations.
Yes! It’s known as neuropathic itch. I get them in random spots like my armpits and the side of my lower leg. I’ve found that Nervala helps quite a bit with those weird nerve sensations.
Yes. It’s a completely inconsolable itch. Then it just stops out of nowhere. Cool air tends to be a trigger for mine.
Yes, it’s caused by damage to the nerves that transmit sensory information, rather than any external skin irritation.
Yes, I frequently have nerve-related itching with my neuropathy. Interestingly, taking a non-drowsy allergy medication seems to help suppress the itchiness for me.
Yes, my polyneuropathy causes a very painful, itch-like sensation on the skin of my feet, legs, hands, arms, and back too. The best solution for me is cooling the area down with water.
Yup. I call it the ‘insane itching.’ There’s no cause other than an inflamed nerve sending itch signals just like other nerves would send pain signals. Sometimes I think it’s worse than the pain because you’re desperate to scratch but there’s nothing actually there to scratch.
I have that aggravating neuropathic itch as well. I tried Gabapentin and Lyrica but couldn’t handle the side effects. My legs and feet would turn bright red and swell up quite badly.
For me, it’s my feet and the palms of my hands, mostly at night. It drives me crazy. I usually get up and take a hot bath. I’m not sure if the ‘competition’ of the nerves sending heat vs. itch signals is why it helps, but it usually does eventually.
Yep. My nail beds itch and it’s the worst.
I get these spots on my legs like a pinpoint of itchy hell that won’t quit for a while—anywhere from seconds to hours. It’s awful.
