I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how we treat our eyes as we get older. Most of us just get a stronger prescription and call it a day, but I’ve started wondering if the real issue isn’t the lens, but how our brain processes what we see. I recently read some research about glutamate receptors in the brain acting like switchboards for our sight. If those microscopic muscles get weak because we’re stuck indoors all day, our vision starts to fade regardless of our glasses.
I decided to try a more targeted approach instead of just eating more carrots. I’ve been using a dropper formula called Eyefortin (i buy here) for about two months now. Interesting take. I always thought it was just the physical shape of the eye changing. I hadn’t really considered the brain’s role in the ‘signal’ part of the equation.

The indoor lifestyle thing is definitely real. My optometrist mentioned that lack of natural light is a huge factor for people our age. We just don’t get the same stimulus we used to.

Is there any actual science behind ‘microscopic muscles’ in the brain? Sounds a bit like marketing speak to me. I’d love to see the Harvard study you mentioned.

Whether it’s the brain or the eyes, I’ve found that just taking more breaks from the computer helps. But I agree that we need more than just a new pair of bifocals every two years.

How many drops do you take? And is it once a day or more? I’m tired of my vision being blurry even with my glasses on.

My doctor told me that vision is 50% eyes and 50% brain. If the signal is weak, it doesn’t matter how clear the lens is. It’s like having a 4K TV with a bad cable connection. I might have to look into this more.

I’ll second the recommendation for Eyefortin. My night vision was getting so bad I stopped driving after 6 PM, but after three weeks of the drops, the halos around streetlights are way less distracting. It really does seem to help with the processing side of things.
