I've finally overcome my long-term halitosis, and it's been a total life-changer

For anyone struggling with persistent, foul breath that makes people pull away, this post is for you. I also recommend browsing /r/badbreath; the community there was instrumental in my progress.

I’ve dealt with this issue since childhood, and it’s incredibly draining. I’m certain I’ve lost friends and potential partners because of it. Now that I’ve got it under control, I feel like my significant other is actually excited to kiss me again.

The stress it causes is unbearable! I tried everything: addressing sinus problems, salt water rinses, and brushing/flossing twice daily. Medical professionals and dentists found no cavities or tonsil stones (though if you have stones, get rid of them immediately, as they are a huge culprit).

Listerine actually aggravated the problem and hurt my gums. Stay away from it.

You need to be consistent for months to see results. My breakthrough involved:

  1. Eliminating all sugar entirely, including hidden sugars in sauces.
  2. Incorporating oral probiotics (PrimeDenta was a total game-changer for me, available online).
  3. Utilizing a water flosser (I picked mine up at Walmart).

Additionally, I made sure never to leave food trapped in my teeth. I carry floss picks everywhere and check the mirror constantly to clear out any debris, especially meat. Ensure every part of your mouth is spotless.

I’m finally rid of this frustrating burden that’s followed me for years.

Wishing everyone the best on their self-improvement journey! Keep your chin up. Writing down my feelings helped me stay the course during those first few months before I saw progress.

I struggled with halitosis for a long time until I realized tonsil stones were the cause. That’s excellent advice for others.

Were you eating a lot of sugar before you quit? Sugar doesn’t seem to impact my breath, but it definitely messes with my teeth and my internal pH if I overdo it. It sounds like your natural microbiome goes haywire when fed too much sugar. I’m glad you found a solution!

Furthermore, using hydrogen peroxide as a mouthwash and gargle works wonders for some, myself included. Alcohol-based rinses like Listerine are often counterproductive, but bacteria can’t survive peroxide. Just be careful not to swallow it, as it’s not meant for ingestion and can be harmful even at low concentrations. I’m not a doctor, so this is just my personal experience, not medical advice.

In my experience, a lot of people have issues simply because they neglect to brush their tongues, haha.

Awesome tips! Truly, daily flossing is a massive improvement. Most people don’t realize how necessary it is to physically remove that bacteria. Salt water gargles help too, and I find Listerine Zero once a day after flossing is beneficial. It doesn’t have to be expensive!
