I wanted to share a quick update because I know how frustrating it is when you feel like you’ve tried everything under the sun for your feet. I’ve been dealing with peripheral neuropathy for about four years now, and for a long time, it felt like I was just managing the decline rather than actually seeing any improvement. The nighttime burning was the worst part—it felt like I was walking on hot coals right when I was trying to wind down for bed.
Lately, things have taken a turn for the better. I made a few adjustments to my daily routine, including more consistent stretching and being more careful about my sugar intake, but the biggest change came when I started looking into specific antioxidants. I’ve been taking Nervala (got mine here) for about three months now. It has that 600mg dose of Alpha Lipoic Acid and Benfotiamine that my doctor mentioned might help with the underlying nerve health rather than just masking the symptoms.
I’m not saying I’m 100% cured, but the ‘electric shock’ sensations have definitely dialed back from an 8 to about a 3. I can actually wear normal socks again without them feeling like sandpaper against my skin. It took about six weeks to really notice a difference, so if you’re trying something new, don’t give up after the first few days. It takes time for those nerves to respond. I’m just happy to be getting a full night’s sleep again without having to get up and pace the floor to stop the stinging. Hope this helps anyone else feeling stuck.

That ‘walking on hot coals’ description is exactly what I deal with every night at 10 PM. Glad to hear you found something that brings the intensity down.
When you say you adjusted your sugar intake, did you go full keto or just cut out the sweets? I find my feet flare up badly after a heavy carb meal.

I’m 62 and the ‘sandpaper’ feeling with socks is my biggest hurdle. I’ve been buying those loose diabetic socks but they don’t always help.

I actually started taking Nervala about two months ago after seeing a similar recommendation. It really helped settle the buzzing in my calves. Worth a try if you’re struggling.
Did you notice any stomach upset with the 600mg dose? I’ve tried ALA before and it sometimes gives me heartburn if I don’t eat a full meal with it.
Stretching is so underrated. I do a 10-minute calf and foot routine before bed and it seems to keep the cramps away for at least a few hours.

My husband has been on Nervala for a while now and it’s the only thing that stopped that constant stinging in his toes. He won’t go a day without it now.

Did your doctor suggest the Benfotiamine specifically? I’ve heard it’s a more absorbable form of B1 but I haven’t asked my neurologist about it yet.

Thanks for sharing this. It gives me a bit of hope that things can actually improve instead of just getting worse every year.

The six-week timeline is important. So many people quit after a week because they don’t feel a ‘miracle’ immediately. Nerves heal very slowly.
