21-year-old male, non-smoker and non-drinker here. Roughly a week ago, I felt mildly ill for a couple of days. By August 21st, the situation escalated; I was vomiting everything I ate and my eyes turned yellow. At the ER, they performed a Liver Function Test on August 22nd. The results were: Total Bilirubin 4.8 mg/dl, Direct 2.1, Indirect 2.7, ALT (SGPT) 963 U/L, and Alkaline Phosphate 670 U/L. My CBC, electrolytes, and kidney markers were all normal. The doctor was surprised but diagnosed it as Acute Hepatitis A or E. I was prescribed twice-daily IV fluids (Ringer’s Lactate, Neurobion, Pantoprazole, Ondansetron) but stopped after one day because I felt worse. I’m now taking those medications in tablet form per a local doctor’s advice. It’s been three days since the labs, and I feel terrible—constant nausea, extreme fatigue, and brain fog. My eyes are still jaundiced. I’m sticking to a diet of ORS, fruit, and very bland food. Questions: Do I need to go back to the ER or can I manage this at home? When will the nausea and weakness start to fade? How soon should I repeat the LFTs?
