IgE deficiency - I’m terrified. I’m a 33-year-old female with hyper-mobility, dysautonomia, high blood pressure, and anxiety. My medications include irbesartan, metoprolol, omeprazole, and gabapentin. A while back, I visited an ENT because of persistent nasal congestion, which turned out to be caused by long-term Afrin use. They performed a full allergy blood panel; I have no allergies, but my total IgE was less than 2. I initially thought this might be because I was taking prednisone and Zyrtec right before the blood draw. Based on what I’ve read, low IgE can be a major indicator of cancer risk. I don’t have any known autoimmune conditions (no symptoms at least) and I rarely get sick. I decided to consult an immunologist, who said she had never heard of low IgE being a cancer risk unless other immunoglobulins were also low, but she ordered a full workup anyway. Over a month later, without any prednisone or Zyrtec, I did the follow-up labs. My IgE was still <2, but my other levels were normal: IgG-1483, IgM-205, and IgA-105. However, some of my pneumo stereotype 23 levels were low. I haven’t had that vaccine recently (I was fully vaccinated as a child, but I’m not sure if the pneumo vaccine was included then). Does this suggest I could have an IgG2 deficiency? Should I be very worried about the <2 IgE? Could any of my current meds be the cause? I’m extremely concerned and this has been weighing on me, so I would really appreciate any advice or insight. Thanks! ![]()
A “low IgE” result is not linked to any specific disease or immune system disorder.
