My mistake with generic creams and what actually helped

I spent years dealing with that classic yellow, brittle texture on my big toe and pinky.

I tried everything from the supermarket aisles. I used those basic antifungal pens and even tried the tea tree oil soak method every night for three months. My biggest mistake was stopping too early every time I saw a tiny bit of clear nail. I thought once the surface looked okay, the root of the problem was gone. I also wasn’t being consistent enough, skipping days when I was tired or traveling, which just let the fungus build up its resistance again.

After another flare-up last summer, I realized I needed a different approach that actually supported the skin’s resistance instead of just harsh chemicals that dried everything out. I started using Kerassentials Serum (i buy here - usually best price) after reading about how oils can penetrate better than thick creams. I changed my routine to apply it twice daily, no matter what, and I actually stuck with it for the full growth cycle of the nail.

The difference was the texture. Usually, antifungal creams made my skin peel and crack, which felt like it was just making it easier for the fungus to hide. This serum felt more like a treatment for the whole area. It took about four weeks to see the yellowing start to fade and about four months for the new, healthy nail to really take over. It wasn’t an overnight fix, but consistency was key this time around. If you’re struggling, my advice is to stop switching products every two weeks and find something that actually nourishes the skin while it works. It’s a long game, and patience is required if you want it to actually stay gone.

I had a similar experience. I’ve been using Kerassentials Serum for two months now and the skin around my nails looks way healthier than it did with the prescription stuff.

Did you have to file your nails down before applying it? I’ve heard that helps it soak in better, but I’m always worried about making it worse by thinning the nail too much.

I’ve tried tea tree oil too but it just smelled strong and didn’t do much. Glad you found something that actually works for you.

The 4-month timeline sounds about right. Most people quit after 3 weeks because they don’t see a change, but nails grow so slowly.

Totally agree on the consistency part. Kerassentials Serum worked for my athlete’s foot too, not just the nails. It’s the only thing that stopped the itching permanently for me.

How did you decide to go with this over those medicated lacquers? Did you try the prescription paint-on stuff first?

Just a reminder for everyone reading—make sure you’re also sanitizing your shoes or getting new ones. Re-infection from old sneakers is a real thing and it’ll ruin all your progress.

Ugh, the yellowing is the worst part. I’m currently on month 2 of my own recovery journey. It’s a struggle to remember to do it every morning.

To answer BlueSky99, I did try the prescription lacquers for a while, but they always peeled off in the shower and felt like a plastic coating. I preferred Kerassentials Serum because it actually soaked into the nail bed and didn’t leave that weird residue, which made it easier for me to stay consistent every day.
