My slow journey back to healthy clear nails

I spent nearly a decade wearing socks at the beach and avoiding sandals because of my thick, yellowed toenails. I tried everything from vinegar soaks that made my house smell like a salad to those expensive drugstore pens that just seemed to sit on the surface without actually doing anything useful.

About six months ago, I decided to switch things up and started using ProNail Complex (i get it here). What made it different for me was how it felt more like an oil-based treatment rather than a harsh chemical layer. It actually seemed to penetrate the nail bed rather than just drying out the top surface of the nail.

My timeline was definitely a test of patience. During the first month, I didn’t see much change on the nail itself, but the skin around my toes felt way less irritated and the constant itching from athlete’s foot finally stopped. By month three, I could see a sliver of clear, pink nail growing in at the base. By month five, the thick, crumbly part was finally growing out enough to clip away safely.

Using ProNail Complex twice a day became a strict ritual for me. I would spray it on after a shower, making sure to get it under the edges. It’s not a miracle cure—you really have to be diligent. If I missed a few days, I felt like the progress stalled. It also has a distinct scent that might not be for everyone, and you have to wait for it to dry before putting on socks or you’ll just wipe it all off.

If you’re feeling stuck, ask yourself: Are you actually reaching the nail bed? And are you giving your treatment enough months to outpace the nail growth? It takes a long time, but sticking to a routine with the right oils and vitamins can eventually make a difference.

I totally get the beach thing. I haven’t worn open-toed shoes in public for five years. It’s so isolating.

Quick question—did you change your socks or shoes during this? I heard old shoes can just keep reinfecting you.

The ‘salad smell’ from vinegar soaks is too real. I gave up on those after two weeks because my spouse couldn’t stand it.

I’ve been using ProNail Complex for about four months now and I agree with Dave. The skin resistance to that itchy athlete’s foot feeling improved almost immediately for me.

Five months sounds like a long time, but I guess nails grow so slowly anyway. Glad you’re seeing progress.

I tried tea tree oil directly but it just dried my skin out until it cracked. Does the oil blend in this stuff help with that?

Dave, did you file down the top of the nail at all before spraying? I’ve heard that helps the oils get in deeper.

The frustration is real. I’ve spent so much money on ‘cures’ that do nothing. It’s hard to stay motivated when you don’t see results for weeks.

Thanks for the honest timeline. Most people expect things to clear up in a week and then give up.

Does it leave a greasy residue? I’m worried about my bedsheets if I apply it at night.

I’m on my second bottle of ProNail Complex. It’s the only thing that managed to clear up the scaling on my heels while also helping the nail texture.

The yellowing is the worst part. Even if the fungus is dying, you’re stuck with the ugly nail until it grows all the way out. Very annoying.

Keep at it! Consistency really is the only way with nail issues.

I had a similar experience with ProNail Complex. It took a while to see the new growth, but the way it improved my skin’s resistance to those flare-ups was worth it alone.
