This isn’t a clickbait post; this has actually happened to me twice. Back in 2020, I woke up with tinnitus for the first time. It started at a 7/10 volume and hit an 8/10 within a week. I tried antibiotics thinking it was an infection, but no luck. My ENT gave me drops and a deep cleaning, which brought it down to a 6/10, but it persisted. For context, my right ear has about 35-40 dB of hearing loss from a childhood surgery (myringotomy tubes) due to infections, while my left ear is normal at 15-20 dB. I never had ringing as a kid, only starting at age 16. It lasted over a year and really took a toll on my mental health. It didn’t just go away on its own.
Eventually, I caught a flu and used my usual remedies: turmeric milk and raw nigella sativa (black cumin) seeds with water (I swallow them whole because they taste harsh). I also did steam inhalation three times daily for 10 minutes. Within a week, the flu was gone, and my tinnitus dropped to a 4/10. I kept the routine up for two more weeks, and the ringing vanished completely. I was so grateful.
Fast forward to 2025, the tinnitus returned. The ENT’s drops and cleaning didn’t help this time. I didn’t wait for a flu; I just started the turmeric, black cumin, and steam routine immediately. My ringing, which was a 9/10, is now down to a 1/10 after 10 days of this.
I think others should try this for at least a month to see if it helps. Even a small volume drop is a win. Since it worked twice, I don’t think it’s a fluke. I’m not sure which ingredient did the heavy lifting, or if it’s the combo, but I hope it helps someone else. I also drink hot honey water often, though I doubt that’s the reason.
Just a heads up: if you’re on blood thinners, aspirin, or blood pressure meds, be cautious with the turmeric and black cumin.
