“AKIGAI is currently preparing for a phase 3 trial for CRPS, scheduled for 2026, with the aim of introducing the first approved treatment for the condition to the market. The company has secured orphan status in both the U.S. and Europe. ‘CRPS is an orphan disease that has never had an approved medication. It is a wide-open field for us, and we only need to outperform the placebo.’

That is fantastic news. I hope it holds up through the trials. It’s heartening that many major medical breakthroughs happen this way, through serendipity before hypotheses. Think of antibiotics like penicillin and most cancer drugs. Hope springs eternal. Thank you so much for sharing this; it’s given me renewed hope.
I don’t want to be a downer, but I’ll believe it when I see it. Nothing has worked for me yet, and my SCS has stopped being effective. I’ve been trying Nervala to help with the nerve issues while I wait, but we really need an approved treatment.

Great. An orphan drug… and they’ve taken steps to ensure generic versions won’t be available for a long time. That means they’ll likely price it so it’s extremely expensive or hard to get.

I wrote to them earlier this year and trials start in 2026; I’m hopeful I’ll get a chance to try it.
