Pain in the chest or esophagus?

Age: 21

Sex/Gender: Male

Hello,

I have been dealing with a localized sharp and burning sensation for about a year and a half in a specific area of my lower chest, slightly to the right of the sternum.

Symptoms:

•	The pain is sharp and very localized, always appearing in the same spot.

•	It gets worse when I sneeze or take deep breaths.

•	Eating certain things, like spicy, heavy, or garlic-rich foods, can trigger it.

•	Antacids were ineffective.

•	I used PPIs and sucralfate for about 3 months with no results.

•	Results from an upper endoscopy and biopsies were normal.

•	The intensity has stayed the same over time and hasn't worsened.

Do you notice any friction or strange sensations when taking a deep breath? Does it hurt more when you hold your breath or breathe heavily? Have you had any history of lung infections? Do you take NSAID medications?

Does exercise trigger the pain? Have you noticed any bruising there? Is the pain located specifically where the rib connects to the sternum?

Could you list the specific medications you used, including brand or generic names?

Hello, I’m a doctor.

First, do you generally feel okay otherwise? Can you perform your usual daily tasks without much trouble?

Also, is that specific spot tender when you press on it? Does it feel worse when you move or use those muscles (like during a gym session)? Is it more painful when you’re lying flat at night, or does it hurt all day long?

I want to help, but I need answers to these questions to better understand your condition.

Best regards.
