There’s a buzzing sound in my right ear and I’m unsure of the next steps.
I’m a 26-year-old male who came back from a trip about three weeks ago. During the flight’s descent, I experienced severe pain in my right ear. I tried everything to clear the pressure, like sucking on hard candy, but nothing worked. After landing, I couldn’t hear well out of that ear for about a day.
While my hearing eventually returned, a constant ringing started in that ear and hasn’t stopped since.
A week later, I went to the emergency room. The doctors suggested possible inner ear damage and an eardrum infection. They gave me Otomize drops and told me to keep using them until the noise stopped.
Ten days later, the ringing persisted, so I sought a second opinion from another GP. This doctor said my eardrum looked fine, but diagnosed an infection in the ear canal instead, prescribing Sofradex.
It’s been five or six days since then, and the ringing continues. My ear actually feels a bit tender now after starting the Sofradex.
Does anyone have tips for managing tinnitus or similar experiences? Is there something the doctors might be overlooking?
For context, I was sick with the flu during the flight home. Usually, I get throat issues when I’m ill, but this time it seems the infection moved to my ear. ![]()
I’d appreciate any guidance you can offer. ![]()
