I am a 31-year-old female, 150 lbs, and otherwise healthy, but I’ve been struggling with E. coli. After Cipro wasn’t a good fit, I was prescribed Xifaxan for my remaining symptoms: fatigue, fever, and stomach issues (no diarrhea). The pharmacy is out of the 200mg tablets for a week, so they contacted my telehealth doctor to modify the prescription. This doctor had already mentioned needing to consult an infectious disease expert and override the system just to prescribe the initial 200mg dose. While the pharmacy said the dosage was ‘adjusted’ to accommodate the 550mg tablets they had in stock, the instructions still say to take it three times a day. This means I’d be taking 1,650mg daily instead of the intended 600mg. I’m honestly quite worried that this is excessive. Does anyone have experience with this? Also, can I just cut these pills in half?
