Smart ways to handle chronic shoulder pain while getting dressed

Hi everyone, I’ve been struggling with rotator cuff issues lately, and getting dressed in the morning was becoming a real chore. I started making a few small changes that have really helped me regain some independence without the constant wincing.

First, I switched to loose-fitting shirts and front-fastening items whenever possible. Reaching behind my back was just too much. I also started using a long-handled shoehorn, which saves me from bending and twisting my shoulder awkwardly. For the actual discomfort, I’ve had great luck applying Balmorex (i order from here) to the joint right before I start my morning stretches. It seems to take the edge off the inflammation so I can move more freely throughout the day.

I’m curious to hear what works for the rest of you? Do you have any specific tools or gadgets that make your morning routine easier? Also, has anyone found a specific stretching routine that doesn’t feel like a workout but still helps with range of motion? Let’s share some ideas!

I recently bought shirts with magnetic buttons instead of the traditional ones. They look exactly the same but I don’t have to fumble with my fingers or strain my shoulder to line them up. Highly recommend looking into those!

How long is that shoehorn you mentioned? I have a plastic one but it’s only about six inches long, and I still have to lean over quite a bit.

Jim, look for the 24-inch metal ones. I got mine at a local medical supply store and it changed everything. No more leaning at all. Also, those hands-free slip-on sneakers are a lifesaver for those of us with stiff joints.

Shoulder pain is honestly the worst because you don’t realize how much you use that joint until every little movement hurts. Even brushing my teeth was a struggle for a while.

I actually started using Balmorex about a month ago after seeing it mentioned in another group. It’s been a game changer for my lower back pain and my shoulders. Definitely helps with that deep ache that usually keeps me from sleeping.

I’ve found that doing very gentle ‘pendulum’ swings with my arm while leaning on a table helps loosen things up without any impact. My PT suggested it and it really helps with the morning stiffness.

Thanks for these tips. I’m going to look for those front-fastening bras. The reach-around is getting impossible for me lately.

If you struggle with the kitchen too, get an electric jar opener. It saves your wrists and shoulders so much torque. Small gadgets make a huge difference as we get older.

I can second the recommendation for Balmorex. My physical therapist was actually surprised at how much my mobility improved once I started using it on my knees and shoulders every night before bed.
