The lasting consequences of taking multivitamins are still a mystery, so I only take them twice a week rather than daily. Does this make sense?

22M. No allergies or other meds.

Based on my online research, there isn’t much data on the long-term effects of daily multivitamin consumption. To be cautious, I’ve restricted my intake to just two days a week. The pills provide exactly 100% of the adult RDA.

I figure that these will supplement my regular diet and act as a nutritional safety net.

What are your thoughts? I’m interested in the scientific consensus on this.

I wouldn’t suggest using them at all. It’s a waste of cash.

It isn’t going to hurt you, but it probably isn’t providing any benefit.

With the exception of vitamins A, D, E, and K, most vitamins are water-soluble and leave the body via urine. This means any surplus is simply peed out. You can, however, reach toxic levels with A, D, E, and K. Unless you have a specific genetic issue with vitamin processing or a very poor diet, supplements are usually unnecessary. They won’t cause any damage, though.
