Too many of us try to maintain the same habits we had in our thirties. As we cross the fifty-year mark, our bodies require a different approach to stay functional and pain-free.
1. Neglecting Mobility Work
Strength is great, but flexibility keeps you moving. Don’t skip the stretching or foam rolling sessions before and after your workouts.
2. Overlooking Recovery Time
Your muscles need more time to repair now. Overtraining leads to chronic inflammation and avoidable injuries.
3. Low Protein Intake
Sarcopenia is real. Ensure you are getting enough high-quality protein to support muscle retention and hormonal health.

I learned the hard way about the mobility part. Tore my calf muscle just by reaching for a tennis ball because I hadn’t stretched in years.

How much protein are we talking about? I usually just have a steak once a week and call it a day.

The recovery point is huge. I used to hit the gym five days straight, but now I find three days with plenty of walking in between works much better for my joints.

I’ve started doing yoga twice a week. It felt silly at first, but my lower back has never felt better. Definitely helps with the mobility issue mentioned.

Sleep is the one people always forget. If I don’t get seven hours, my strength drops significantly the next day.

Excellent advice. I think many guys our age are also afraid of lifting heavy, but we actually need the resistance to keep our bones strong.

Thanks for the reminder on protein. I’ll have to look into some cleaner sources since my cholesterol is a bit high.

Is it better to do mobility work in the morning or right before a workout? I’ve heard conflicting things.
