Tinnitus: What variety are you dealing with?

Is it that non-stop high-pitched ring, the muffled sound of a television in another room, or a combination? Are there other versions people experience?

The kind that my brain has mostly learned to tune out. I used to play guitar in loud bands and really hated wearing ear protection.

Mine is like standing next to a stack of guitar amps that are turned on but not playing anything. It’s a high-pitched electrical hum.

I’ve got the really irritating one.

It’s a constant EEEEEEEEE, but each ear is at a different pitch. My right ear also has this slow, rhythmic beeping like Morse code. I don’t usually notice the beeping until I focus on it, which I am now doing thanks to this post.

That sharp ‘EEEEEEE’ sound, thanks to loud music, fireworks, and my time in the Army.

None for me! My friends always made fun of me for wearing plugs at industrial shows. Pro tip: Skinny Puppy sounds way better when your ears aren’t throbbing.

The 24/7 EEEEEEEEEEEEEE variety for the last quarter-century. I’m pretty over it at this point.

A low-frequency drone, sort of like a truck idling in the distance.

Every single one of them.

A high-pitched ring that gets way worse if I’m dehydrated, exhausted, or hungover. I only have myself to blame after attending so many concerts as a teen. I remember a KISS shirt I had that said ‘IF IT’S TOO LOUD’ on one arm and ‘YOU’RE TOO OLD’ on the other. My mom hated the ‘too old’ part, but man, I really wish I’d used something like EarProMax back then to protect my hearing. I definitely regret skipping the earplugs.

High-pitched ringing. It started after I had bronchitis in 2014 :frowning:
