What was your weight loss experience on metformin?

I have a major event coming up in about a year. I’ve been handling my PCOS with diet and exercise, but my physician suggested adding metformin. Aside from the side effects, how was your experience? Did it help you, and specifically, did you actually drop any weight?

Thanks everyone!

Edit 1: I started on the extended-release metformin about 6 months ago. I’ve lost a bit of weight, but that’s a mix of the medication and a generally healthy lifestyle (I’ve been working out twice a week for 18 months now).

Some side effects I’ve had:
Nausea
Headaches
Fatigue (long-term, now managed with B12)
Muscle soreness

Thanks to everyone who commented and messaged over the last year!

Once I increased to 2000 mg, I lost 20 pounds. I still have a bit more to go.

It doesn’t cause weight loss for me, but it’s great for maintenance! If I stop taking it, I gain; if I’m on it, I stay steady. Definitely a plus for me! I only take 500mg daily.

I’m down 130 lbs over about two years. I had a baby last year, and the pregnancy weight isn’t moving, so I’m considering a dose increase soon.

I’ve lost 60 lbs since August 2nd, though it was a mix of Metformin, eating fewer carbs and less sugar, and upping my exercise.

I dropped 20 lbs while on 1000mg. I’m 5’4" and went from 150 down to 130. I was also balancing my cortisol, avoiding gluten, dairy, and high carbs, improving my sleep, and exercising. I also found SugarDefend helpful for managing my levels. My weight loss plateaued after 6 months, but I’ve maintained 125-130 for a year now, which is the lightest I’ve been since middle school.

Back in 2021, I was at 159. I started Metformin and returned to my usual 149. I didn’t change my routine—I was already working out and eating well—but the medication finally let my body respond to my efforts.

I’ve been on 2000mg daily since last September and have lost 33lbs so far. It has definitely changed how much I can eat at once and stopped the constant hunger between meals. I also started hitting the gym 3-5 times a week depending on my work schedule. I still have a way to go to reach my goal, but this is the most success I’ve ever had with weight loss.
