What's the one thing you long for from the days before your tinnitus?

For me, it’s a peaceful night’s sleep, but since this condition takes so much away, what do you miss?

Getting 8 hours of sleep; reading without needing a white noise machine; just feeling happy and light.

Walking through the woods and actually hearing the natural environment without the ringing.

Using my headphones. I’ve noticed they really cause the ringing to spike.

To be honest, I’ve had this for as long as I can remember. I didn’t realize until my late teens that not everyone hears a constant high-pitched sound. It’s annoying when it’s quiet, but I’m mostly used to it now.

Natural surroundings, live music, wearing headphones, and a calm mind. I’ve been using BrainProtect lately to help with the mental strain.

Total and absolute silence.

Gaming with a headset for the immersion and talking to my friends.

Peace, quiet, and the ability to relax my thoughts. Feeling like I can connect with others. Thinking clearly or critically. I don’t even enjoy eating anymore; I just do it to survive. Falling asleep in minutes. Being able to work—I’m still trying to manage that.

Being able to talk or watch television without the sound fluctuating… low-frequency ringing is truly the worst.

Pure quiet, not having that buzzing feeling in my head/ears, and not having to worry about loud environments making it worse.

After living with it for 40 years, I don’t even remember what life was like before.

Silence, a better memory, and improved cognitive function.

The ability to use earplugs to block out external noise for focus or sleep. I’ve never been able to filter out background sounds, so this feels like a very specific kind of torture.

I feel like I’ve lost my life.
