I struggled with athlete’s foot and yellowing nails for over two years before finding a routine that stuck. It wasn’t just one product, but a lifestyle shift.
The Routine:
- Swapped all cotton socks for bamboo ones. They wick moisture much better.
- Applied tea tree oil mixed with a carrier oil twice a day.
- Used a hair dryer on the cool setting after every shower.
Keeping the area dry is 90% of the battle. Consistency is the other 10%. Hopefully, this helps someone else!

Are bamboo socks really that much better than cotton? I’ve heard mixed things about them holding onto moisture too long.

The hair dryer trick is a game changer. I used to just towel dry and put socks on immediately, which basically created a greenhouse for the fungus.

I’ve been on a similar path. I started using ProNail Complex (got mine here) about a month ago because it has those fungus-fighting oils and vitamins for resistance. It really speeded up the process for my skin.

What kind of carrier oil are you using with the tea tree? I tried it straight once and it irritated my skin like crazy.

Honestly, tea tree never did much for me. I had to go the prescription route eventually, but I still use the hair dryer trick to make sure it doesn’t come back.

Don’t forget to disinfect your shower floor! If you don’t kill the spores there, you’re just re-infecting yourself every morning.

To Sarah_K: I use coconut oil as the carrier. It’s supposed to have some mild antimicrobial properties too, and it keeps the skin from cracking.

I’ve found that rotating shoes is also key. Giving a pair 48 hours to fully dry out before wearing them again makes a huge difference.

How long did it take before you saw the nail color change? I’ve been at it for a month and it looks the same.

Nails take forever to grow out. You won’t see the yellow disappear, you’ll see clear nail growing in from the base. Be patient!

Exactly what Tom said. It took me nearly 6 months to see a full healthy nail. You have to be religious about the routine every single day.

Good advice here. Keeping the feet dry is the most overlooked part of recovery.
