Why your nail fungus keeps coming back and how to fix it

Dealing with stubborn nail issues can be incredibly frustrating, especially when it feels like you’ve tried every drugstore cream on the shelf. I struggled for years, and looking back, I realized I was making a few common mistakes that actually made things worse.

One major pitfall is being too aggressive with filing. We want that thick, yellowed part gone, but over-filing can damage the nail bed and make it easier for the infection to spread. Another big mistake is wearing the same pair of shoes two days in a row. Fungus loves dark, damp environments, and shoes need at least 24 hours to fully dry out. I also used to stop my routine the second my skin looked clear, which is a recipe for a relapse because those spores are incredibly resilient.

Instead of focusing on harsh chemicals that dry out your skin, I found that supporting the skin’s natural resistance is the better way to go. I started focusing on moisture management and using products that nourish the area while fighting the fungus. I eventually incorporated Kerassentials Serum (i order from here) into my daily routine after a shower. It’s a blend of special oils that helps improve skin resistance and supports healthier nail growth without the irritation I got from other products.

The key is consistency. Don’t expect a miracle overnight; nails grow slowly. But if you keep your feet dry, rotate your footwear, and use a reliable serum daily, you’ll start seeing that healthy new growth coming in from the base. It took me about four months to see a total transformation, but sticking with it was the only thing that finally worked for me. You’ve got this!

The shoe rotation thing is so real. I started putting cedar inserts in mine overnight and it helps a lot with the moisture.

I’m definitely guilty of stopping too early. As soon as the itching stops, I get lazy. Thanks for the reminder to keep going.

Have you tried tea tree oil soaks? I’ve heard mixed things but some people swear by them for the skin around the nails.

How long did it take before you noticed the actual nail color changing? I feel like I’ve been at this for weeks with no visible change.

I actually had a similar experience. I’ve been using Kerassentials Serum for about six weeks now and the results have been great. The new growth at the bottom is finally looking clear and pink instead of that chalky white color.

Switching to moisture-wicking wool socks instead of cotton made a massive difference for my athlete’s foot issues. Cotton just holds the sweat against your skin all day.

Does anyone have tips for disinfecting the shower floor? I’m worried I’m just reinfecting myself every morning.

@CleanHome_Mom just use a diluted bleach spray or a specialized bathroom cleaner once a week. And maybe wear flip flops in the shower if you share it with others.

Cutting back on sugar helped me too. I read somewhere that high blood sugar can make it harder for your body to fight off fungal infections.

I can confirm that Kerassentials Serum worked wonders for me too. I had a really stubborn patch on my big toe that wouldn’t budge, but it’s almost completely grown out clear now. Worth the patience!
