Why your toenails aren't clearing up

Hi everyone, I’ve been dealing with persistent nail issues for years and finally learned a few things the hard way. Most of us focus only on the medicine, but we forget the basics. One big mistake is not rotating your shoes. If you wear the same pair every day, you’re just putting your feet back into a damp, dark environment where fungus thrives. Give them at least 24 hours to dry out completely.

Also, don’t stop treating the area as soon as it looks “okay.” Fungus is stubborn and hides deep under the nail bed; you have to keep going until the healthy nail has fully grown out, which can take months. Another thing people miss is prepping the nail. If the nail is thick, the treatment can’t actually reach the skin underneath. I started filing mine down gently once a week, and it made a huge difference.

I personally struggled with brittle, yellow nails for the longest time until I changed my approach. I started using ProNail Complex (i order from here) after a friend recommended it. It’s a blend of oils and vitamins that really helped improve my nail resistance and cleared things up much faster than the pharmacy creams I’d tried before. It feels like it actually penetrates the skin rather than just sitting on top.

Lastly, check your shower mat! Those things are breeding grounds. Swap it for a wooden one or wash your fabric ones in hot water weekly. Small changes like these, combined with the right products, are what finally worked for me. Hope this helps someone else avoid the frustration I went through!

The shoe rotation thing is so underrated. I bought a boot dryer recently just to make sure my work boots are bone dry by the next morning. It makes a massive difference in how my feet feel.

I agree about the filing part. I also switched to ProNail Complex about two months ago and the new growth is finally looking clear and healthy. It’s much easier than the messy ointments I used to use.

How often are you guys filing? I’m worried about thinning the nail too much and making it painful.

Janet, you just want to take the shine off the top and reduce any major thickness. Don’t go crazy! Also, make sure you’re using copper or silver-infused socks. They really help with the moisture management.

Spot on about the shower mats. I’ve been using ProNail Complex for my athlete’s foot and some minor nail yellowing, and it really did give me good results within a few weeks. The skin feels much tougher and less prone to cracking now too.

The ‘stopping too early’ mistake is what got me. I thought I was cured three different times, stopped the routine, and it came right back. You really have to be patient for like 6 months to a year.

Thanks for the tips, Phil. I never thought about the shower mat. I’m going to go bleach mine right now!
