I never expected this to happen to me, but it turns out one of my front teeth has died. I posted recently suspecting gum recession or an exposed root, and while some users told me sensitivity was to be expected, my dentist just verified that a root canal is necessary. I didn’t pay enough attention to the potential risks of Invisalign at the start, and I really regret not being more diligent now.

I couldn’t track down your previous thread. Were you feeling just sensitivity or was it full-on pain? I’m not sure I could tell them apart…
I’m really sorry to hear that. It’s important to remember this is a possibility, even if it only occurs in maybe 2-3% of patients at most!
That’s terrible. I’ve read accounts of teeth dying because Smile Direct Club shifted them too fast, but I didn’t realize it was a risk with Invisalign as well.
I’m dealing with the exact same thing right now on tray 8 of 20… I assumed the discomfort was just due to the size of the tooth, but the root is dead and a root canal is in my future. I’m baffled by what triggered it… the alignment there wasn’t perfect, and my bottom tooth would occasionally hit it. My orthodontist doubted that was the cause, while my dentist thought it was possible or perhaps due to an old injury from childhood… it’s just odd that nothing appeared on my X-rays just two months back. Most people suggest I continue the treatment once it’s safe, but I’m honestly worried about what might happen to my other teeth.
