I can’t believe it took me 33 years to finally give this a shot. Cutting out carbohydrates is honestly the greatest decision I’ve ever made!
It’s a bit humiliating because I considered myself self-aware, yet I totally ignored the clear signals my body was sending—post-meal fatigue, bloating, lethargy, and brain fog. Plus, my fluctuating moods kept me reaching for sugar and coffee. I used to eat huge amounts without ever feeling full, often polishing off twice as much as my husband (miraculously, I didn’t end up obese).
After only seven days without carbs, I feel amazing and won’t ever return to my old habits. I’ve dropped 8 pounds, and both my temperament and sleep quality have improved drastically. This is even while raising two infants, being seven months postpartum, and dealing with lack of sleep. I’ve had almost no cravings since I started, even though I’d been eating poorly for months. This high energy makes it easy to avoid junk food.
I feel silly for waiting so long. I used to think I had a passion for bread and fries, but I realize now it was just an addiction. I wanted to post about my progress and ask: what other benefits should I look forward to if I stick with this long-term?
