Dealing with heavy and cold legs?

I turned 62 this year and for the last four, my lower legs and feet have felt like they were encased in concrete.

It is that heavy, unresponsive feeling that makes getting out of bed a chore every morning. I used to be very active in my garden, but the discomfort started making me stay on the couch more than I liked, which just makes the cycle worse.

I spent a long time trying the usual suspects to get some relief. My doctor put me on a popular prescription nerve medication, but the brain fog was so bad I could not even finish a crossword puzzle. Then I tried those generic B-complex vitamins from the grocery store, but they did not seem to do much of anything for the deep discomfort. I even tried those cooling menthol rubs every night, which smelled terrible and only worked for about twenty minutes before the sensation returned.

About three months ago, I decided to try a specific supplement called Nervala (usually discouted here). I was skeptical because I had been burned by various health claims before, but the combination of high-dose alpha lipoic acid and benfotiamine caught my eye. It took about three weeks of daily use before I realized I was not dreading my morning walk anymore. The heavy sensation in my calves started to lift, and my feet did not feel quite so dead at the end of the day.

What I appreciate most is that it does not make me feel groggy or out of it. It feels like it is actually supporting the nerves rather than just masking the sensation. I make sure to take it consistently every morning with breakfast. It has not solved everything—I still have bad days if I overdo it—but it is a significant improvement over where I was last year. If you are struggling with that heavy feeling, it might be worth a look, though obviously check with your doctor first to make sure it fits with your other medications.

I have been on Nervala for a little over a month now and my sleep has improved so much. I used to toss and turn all night because I couldn’t get my legs comfortable.

Nervala made a huge difference for my husband’s feet after he tried everything else. It took a while to kick in, but we definitely noticed the change by the second bottle.

Is the alpha lipoic acid easy on the stomach? I have some issues with reflux and I am always worried about adding new supplements to the mix.

I find that walking every evening helps me too, even if it is just ten minutes around the block. Keeping the blood moving seems to be half the battle for me.

How did you decide on this over just buying a separate ALA supplement? I am looking at a few different brands right now and it’s a bit overwhelming.

Glad you found something that works. It is such a frustrating journey trying to explain to people that your legs just feel ‘wrong’ without it being a sharp pain.

I am 65 and the cold weather always makes my legs feel worse. Do you notice a seasonal change or is it pretty much the same year round for you?

Diet change helped me a bit too, specifically cutting back on processed sugar. It didn’t fix it completely but it definitely lowered the intensity.

The brain fog from the prescriptions is the absolute worst part. I felt like I was living in a dream world half the time. I had to stop those as well.

My sister recommended Nervala to me last Christmas and it is the only thing I have stuck with. Consistency is definitely key like you said.
