Does doing seated stretches every hour reduce stiffness?

Hi everyone. I’ve been trying a little experiment lately to manage my lower back and knee stiffness. Instead of waiting for my morning walk, I’ve started doing five minutes of seated stretches every single hour while I’m at my desk or watching TV.

I’m curious if anyone else has tried this “little and often” approach? I want to see if it’s more effective than one long session.

Does it actually make a difference in your overall mobility by evening, or does the constant movement just wear you out? I’d love to hear your experiences.

I tried doing this but I always end up getting distracted by the news or a book. I probably need to set a timer on my phone if I want to be consistent!

I’ve been doing ankle circles and leg extensions while I eat breakfast and lunch. It definitely helps with the ‘first steps’ pain when I get up from the chair.

My physical therapist actually recommended this. She calls it ‘movement snacks.’ It’s better for my hips than sitting for three hours straight, that’s for sure.
