Fixing common mistakes in foot care

We’ve all been there—trying to scrub away fungus or wearing the same sneakers day after day hoping it just disappears. One major pitfall I see is over-washing with harsh chemicals that actually strip your skin’s natural defenses, making it easier for infections to take hold. Instead of aggressive scrubbing, try a gentle soak and ensure you’re bone-dry before putting on socks.

Another mistake is ignoring the nail bed until it’s visibly thick. Waiting too long makes the recovery process much harder. I started focusing on building up my skin’s resistance rather than just attacking the symptoms. A big part of my nightly routine now involves using Kerassentials Serum (got mine here) after my shower. It’s a blend of oils that really helps support the skin and nails without the irritation I got from pharmacy creams.

Also, remember to rotate your shoes. Giving them 24 hours to breathe prevents that damp environment fungus loves. Small, consistent shifts in your daily habits usually work better than one-off miracle treatments that don’t address the environment your feet are in.

The shoe rotation thing is so underrated. I used to wear the same boots every day for work and wondered why I couldn’t get rid of athlete’s foot. Once I bought a second pair to swap out, things cleared up way faster.

I’ll second the recommendation for Kerassentials Serum. I’ve been using it for about three weeks now and my toenails actually look clear for the first time in years. It’s much easier than those messy ointments.

I also had a great experience with Kerassentials Serum. I was worried about the skin around my nails getting dry and cracked, but this kept everything hydrated while the fungus finally cleared out. Worth the consistency!

Do you guys recommend specific socks? I’ve heard bamboo is better than cotton for moisture wicking but I’m not sure if it actually makes a difference for the fungus itself.

How long did it take before you saw actual nail regrowth? I feel like my nails grow at a snail’s pace, so it’s hard to tell if my routine is even working.

@TechGuyJim It usually takes months for a full nail to grow out. You just have to look at the base of the nail—if the new growth looks pink and healthy, you’re on the right track. Stick with the routine!
