Back in February, I hit my highest weight ever. Following an accident that kept me immobile for a while, I shot up from 190 to 240 lbs. I was ordering food constantly and eating way too much. My doctors were actually worried because my blood pressure spiked enough to require meds. I realized I had to break the cycle of overeating and weight gain, plus the cost of delivery apps was draining my bank account.
Since my accident limits me, walking is pretty much my only option for exercise. I was doubtful at first that just walking could actually burn enough to make a difference, but it really works! I got a step tracking app and committed to 10,000 steps every day. Regardless of the weather, I’ll even pace in my bedroom to hit the goal. Combined with a calorie deficit, the progress has been incredible. I’ve dropped from 240 lbs in February to 214 lbs this May!
This isn’t just a pep talk; it’s practical advice for anyone feeling stuck. If you can, try to hit 10k steps. It helps both your body and your mind. I usually listen to music or podcasts while I’m out. It’s also great to do with a friend. I just wanted to share my experience here. If you have questions, feel free to comment or send a DM. I’m happy to help however I can.

Starting weight: 330, Current weight: 289. It’s absolutely true! I’ve been doing weight lifting four times weekly for seven months while getting around 6,000 steps. Two weeks ago, I pushed that to 10,000 steps daily, and I feel fantastic. My weight loss pace has definitely picked up since then.
I find that 11,500 steps is my sweet spot for efficiency, but hitting 10k definitely makes a noticeable impact.
I’m at the beginning of my weight loss journey and really lacked the drive for my morning walk today. I’ll hop on the walking pad after my shift to catch up on steps! I appreciate you sharing your story!
Working from home since the pandemic started really tanked my daily movement. Now I manage 6,000 steps by taking the dogs out for 15-20 minutes three times daily. Before this, I was lucky to hit 1,200. I’m feeling stronger, and my knee pain has decreased, so it’s a solid start. Great job, OP.
Totally agree. I stopped my morning walks for a month to try other home workouts, and the scale stayed still. I resumed walking 15 days ago and I’m already seeing progress. I track my pace and steps to ensure I surpass 10k every day.
Walking has been a lifesaver for me as well. I used to be a waitress and stayed thin despite eating restaurant meals because I was on my feet for 50 hours a week. When I transitioned to nursing, I convinced myself I was just as active and that my weight gain was just aging. However, after picking up a shift at my old job, I realized how much more physical waitressing actually was. I’ve since increased my daily steps to match those old levels, and the weight is finally dropping off again.
I wish this worked for me, but I already hit over 10k steps every day I’m at work. Unfortunately, that level of activity hasn’t been enough for me to lose weight.
I usually land between 10k and 15k steps daily. I also use the elliptical for 30 minutes several times a week and lift weights four days a week. I’ve grown to love working out; it’s boosted my mood and I enjoy being active.
Because of my schedule, I’ve switched to a weekly step target. It doesn’t quite average 10k a day, but I do what I can, and more steps always make me feel better. My goal for June is 45,000 steps per week, along with home dumbbell workouts. I’ll evaluate at the end of the month and likely increase the target for July.
Due to severe anemia, walking is one of the few exercises I can handle without fainting or getting heart palpitations. I hit 10,000 steps daily because my large dog requires the exercise to stay calm. I was 236 lbs in February, and through a calorie deficit and walking, I’ve reached 199 lbs this week. Walking is genuinely a lifesaver for me!
Absolutely! So many people underestimate how effective simply increasing your step count can be.
You’ve inspired me to go finish the 5k steps I need to reach my 10k goal today. I’ve been aiming for 10k daily for a month now and I’m already noticing a difference. Congrats on your success!
I just started a warehouse position where I average 6-8k steps and do some heavy lifting throughout the day, which I’m enjoying. I don’t eat much because the work is tiring, so I’m hoping this helps me shed the weight I gained from medication. No changes yet this month, but I’m optimistic.
Hitting 10k is quite a challenge when you have a sedentary desk job, but I feel incredible whenever I manage to do it.
I totally agree! I bought a walking pad recently and use it alongside my Fitbit most days; I’ve already lost 3kg in just two weeks. Once I’m closer to my target weight, I’ll start strength training, but walking and jogging are working wonders for now.
My company recently launched a step challenge, and it’s been so motivating. We use a free app to track our group’s progress in real time, and there are prizes for the top three each month. I hit 15,500 steps the other day—something I never would have achieved without the app and the competitive spirit of seeing my coworkers’ progress.
Starting at 401 lbs a few months ago, I knew losing weight would be easier initially with a 2k calorie limit, especially since I’ve been sedentary my whole life. I began walking for 30 minutes every day at a slow pace and have lost 53 lbs so far. I’m gradually increasing my speed and aiming for 40 minutes, though I usually hit around 6,500 to 7,000 steps rather than 10k. Surprisingly, the physical pain was minimal after the first few days. I get some minor knee discomfort if I push too fast, but it fades quickly. I’m not looking for praise; I just want to demonstrate that weight loss is achievable if you’re committed.
