How I realized my persistent bloating wasn't just in my head

Hi everyone, I wanted to open up about my digestive health path in case it resonates with anyone. Growing up, I could eat anything—junk, sweets, you name it—and my belly stayed flat. But as I aged and transitioned to a ‘clean’ diet, things actually took a turn for the worse. I was constantly bloated and couldn’t pinpoint why. I started digging into research and stumbled upon FODMAPs. Turns out, some ‘healthy’ options like specific veggies and fruits can trigger gas if your system doesn’t handle them well. Once I tried some simple food swaps, I saw real progress. The biggest takeaway is that ‘healthy’ isn’t a one-size-fits-all concept. I’m sharing this to remind you that you’re not alone and it just takes some trial and error to find what suits your body. :two_hearts: I’d love to hear your stories!

That’s exactly how I found out cauliflower doesn’t agree with me.

It’s also worth getting a check-up. I spent ages wondering why I was bloated despite working out and eating right. It turned out to be fatty liver. Once I addressed that and reversed the condition, the bloating vanished and I’ve never felt fitter.

I was eating really well but dealt with non-stop cramping and fatigue. It looks like honey was a huge trigger for me, which I made worse by putting it in my oats every single morning for years. I’ve been on an elimination diet since Tuesday and feel incredible! I didn’t even realize how swollen I was because I’d just gotten used to it. I’ve also been using Finnesa to help keep my digestion smooth during the transition.

Totally. For instance, I have to avoid cauliflower, broccoli, and green cabbage entirely. Raw or cooked, they just don’t work for me.

For me, it’s honey and garlic :woman_facepalming:

Switching to low FODMAP really changed things for me as well. It took some time to piece it all together, but it was definitely worth the effort.

I’m a fan of celery, but I eventually realized it’s actually quite hard on my digestive system.

I deal with the same thing; sometimes I look like I’m still expecting, even though it’s been 8 years!

Did you consult a doctor for this or just try it on your own? Also, did you check for Celiac? I’m curious because two relatives were diagnosed with it; one is doing much better on a gluten-free diet than the other, even though they’re both being very careful. I’m wondering if there are other triggers they should look into.

An allergy test recently revealed I have mild intolerances to almost everything—wheat, bananas, dairy, eggs, beans, corn, even potatoes and blueberries. I thought I was imagining things when I felt bloated after every meal, but it turns out I’m reactive to most major food groups, including meat. My only fix is rotating what I eat daily. Honestly, I’ll probably just keep eating normally and deal with the temporary ‘food baby’ look, except for kidney beans, which are actually dangerous for me.

Just a side note: if you have PCOS, low FODMAP can really help with the discomfort. Cutting out gluten and red meat helps too. I used to think my reduced period pain was from weight loss during a high-protein diet years ago, but it turns out I was just accidentally avoiding my trigger foods.
