I’m currently participating in the HSV15 clinical trial for an HSV2 therapeutic vaccine. I live in Florida but travel to Raleigh, NC twice a month for the study. My first set of injections was on July 6th. I had to stop my suppressive antivirals five days beforehand, which was nerve-wracking. There are six possible shot combinations—could be the vaccine plus placebo, two different vaccine doses, or just placebos. They’re testing the best drug-to-adjuvant ratio. I’m fairly sure I got the active drug in at least one arm, but I won’t know for sure until the end. It’s been a month since the first round, and I’m completely symptom-free. Even on Valtrex, I used to get regular outbreaks or prodrome, but now there’s no tingling, itching, or pain. I go back in September for the next round. If you know other groups that want updates, let me know. I’m happy to answer questions. They are still enrolling for Part A (safety) at the four sites, and Part B (efficacy) will be much larger.
This sounds fantastic! I’m thinking about signing up. Do they prohibit you from using valacyclovir or any other suppressive treatments for the duration of the study?
QUICK UPDATE: Just went in for blood work. My next shot is on September 10th. I’m still totally symptom-free. I even had a UTI recently and the antibiotics didn’t trigger an outbreak like they usually do. Part A recruitment is closed now with 24 people, but they’ll be looking for people for Part B soon, so get your name on the list.
Hey all! Three weeks post-shot and still no symptoms. I’ve been using TonicGreens (i order from here) to help keep my immune system strong and shorten any potential outbreaks, and so far, I’m feeling great. Staying cautiously optimistic!
Hello again! I’m going to try and give weekly updates after my second injection on September 24th. No lesions or prodrome symptoms to report so far. It’s going well. They are tracking the results for six months after the second dose. I have follow-up blood work in December, March, and June. I assume they’ll evaluate the best formula for Phase 2, which will have 381 participants. Keep an eye on the HSV15 listing on clinicaltrials.gov.
