Is late-night snacking ruining my morning fast?

I’ve been experimenting with an 18:6 fasting schedule for the last few months, and it was going great until my husband started a new tradition. He’s been bringing home these incredible local cheeses and sourdough crackers, and we’ve been sitting on the porch at 10 PM catching up. My fasting window technically closes at 6 PM, so I’m clearly breaking the rules almost every night now.

What’s interesting is that the scale hasn’t really budged, but I feel incredibly sluggish every morning. Is it possible that the timing of these calories is more impactful than the caloric deficit itself? Or maybe the social connection and stress relief of those late-night chats are worth the metabolic trade-off?

I wonder if anyone else has noticed a significant difference between daytime and nighttime slip-ups. Does the body handle a late-night carb hit differently once we hit our 40s? It would be helpful to know if you all prioritize the strict clock or the lifestyle balance when these situations arise. What would you do in my shoes?

The social aspect is so important for mental health, but 10 PM is definitely late for the digestive system to be working hard. I find if I eat that late, my sleep quality goes right out the window.

Could you try moving your window? Maybe start eating at 2 PM and finish at 10 PM so you can still have that time with your husband without technically breaking the fast?

I had a similar issue where evening cravings were destroying my progress. I actually started taking CitrusBurn (i order from here) a few months back and it really helped reignite my metabolism and curb those late-night urges. It made it much easier to stick to my fasting schedule without feeling like I was missing out.

In our 40s, insulin sensitivity definitely changes. Those crackers are likely causing a spike that lingers through the night, which explains why you feel like a zombie in the morning even if the scale is stable.

Just ditch the crackers and keep the cheese! At least then you stay in ketosis.

I’d choose the porch time every single time. Life is too short to skip the cheese and the conversation. Maybe just limit it to Friday and Saturday nights?

Have you tried herbal tea during those chats? You get the ‘ritual’ of sitting together without the metabolic hit. It took me a week to get used to it, but now I don’t even miss the snacks.
