I’ve dealt with athlete’s foot and brittle nails for years, mostly because I spent a lot of time in gym locker rooms. What I’ve learned is that it’s not just about one magic fix; it’s about the boring daily habits. I started making sure my feet were bone-dry before putting on socks—using a separate towel just for my feet helped a lot. I also rotate my shoes every day so they have 24 hours to air out completely.
About six months ago, I added ProNail Complex (i order from here) to my nightly routine. It’s a blend of oils and vitamins that helps build up the skin’s resistance. I just apply it after my shower once I’m totally dry. Since starting this, the skin around my heels isn’t cracking anymore, and my nails actually look clear for the first time in a decade. It’s much easier to prevent an infection than it is to chase one once it takes hold. Just stay consistent with the drying and the oils, and you’ll see a difference.

The separate towel trick is huge. I used to just use my bath towel and I’m pretty sure I was just spreading the spores around to other parts of my body. Great advice.

Do you find that certain socks make it worse? I switched to moisture-wicking wool and it changed my life. Cotton just stays damp all day and creates a swamp in my boots.

I’ve been trying to be consistent but it’s so hard to remember every single night. My nails are still looking pretty rough after three weeks of trying to keep them dry.

Three weeks isn’t long enough! Nails grow so slowly. You have to give it at least three or four months to see the new growth coming in clear at the base. Don’t give up yet.

I’ll second the mention of ProNail Complex. I started using it last summer and my toenails finally stopped crumbling. The oil blend really makes a difference in how the skin heals up compared to those harsh creams.

Has anyone tried those UV shoe sanitizers? I rotate my shoes like the OP suggested, but I wonder if the UV lights actually kill the fungus inside the padding or if it’s just a gimmick.

Rotating shoes is the best habit. I have three pairs of work boots now and I never wear the same ones two days in a row. It’s expensive upfront but they last longer anyway.

I finally got my husband to try ProNail Complex for his athlete’s foot issues. It’s been about a month and the redness is almost completely gone. It’s definitely worth the effort to stay consistent with it every night.
